Clarissa Chevalier (she/her) is a PhD candidate at the University of California San Diego affiliated with the Visual Arts Department and the Program for Interdisciplinary Environmental Research at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Her dissertation research combines media theory, feminist science studies, biological oceanography, and artistic practice to critically reimagine contemporary ocean visualization, datafication, and simulation. Chevalier has written and presented on topics of sustainability, ecological crisis, early women oceanographers, and the vital importance of artistic collaboration with scientists to offer alternative interpretations of scientific data calibrated to different ethical commitments.
